You get what you pay for with this hotel. Ideally located, 10-15 min stroll to the heart of Munich.Or go by underground that is situated virtually under the hotel. As for the hotel, On arrival the receptionists was pleasant and helpful, I had a room on the seventh floor, this involved a lift up to the sixth then a short flight of stairs to the top, but it was worth it because my room was a mini suite type room, although I didnt spend too much time in it. I went to Munich to see Munich and not the inside of a hotel room. Dont expect spectacular views of the city, however on a clear day you could see the Alps from my window and I had a magnificent view of the Main railway station that was directly in front of the hotel, brilliant for big kids like me.My friends however had a third floor room that was small and a little more basic, but still adequate for its purpose. The hotel is non smoking which suits me but it has obviously allowed smoking in the past as there is still a lingering smell associated with this.
The "Hotel Bar" is probably the thing that dissapointed me. I got the impression that the bar was not run by the hotel but was simply adjoined to it and it was expensive. 2 small beers(0.3l) and two white wines cost me 20 euros so I didnt return. The Cigar smokers club met in the bar on Saturday night so we were not allowed entry. Unlike other reviews of the hotel the smoke from the cigars did not permeate the hotel.Breakfast was a typical continentasl/German breakfast with ample fruit, yoghurt, cheeses, cold meats as well as hot sausages and eggs.
Overall experience was excellent and I would certainly reccomend this hotel. My flight home was late at night and we were allowed to leave my cases in the locked restaurant until I needed them.

Like most German cities the travel infrastructure is brilliant. The station is across the road and access to the U Bahn is via a subway some 10 metres from the hotel door. The first thing I did was buy a three day City Tour Card it cost 29 euros and allowed me and my three companions unlimited travel around the city.
Left turn out of the hotel and a 10-15 minute stroll(dont forget to take in the architecture duruing this stroll) brings you directly to Marienplatz where you can start to explore the city, alternativly into the subway and trains to Marienplatz arrive about every 2-3 mins for a short ride there instead. The station is an underground world in itself with many exits . I got lost a couple of times and popped up in different locations but it was fun.
Munich as expected was expensive for the average traveller like me but it is a big city so this didnt come as a surprise. The Brauhauses do get busy and it might be worth trying to book a table for the evening before you travel, Afternoon dining is not as bad. If you want the Brauhaus experience without the crowds try the one next to the Hotel,(out the Hotel door , turn left and its ten metres away) you get the same kind of food and the same kind of beer and wine but without the hassle of waiting for a table and for about a third less of the cost. The staff here seemed friendlier too , I think because they were under less pressure that their city centre colleagues.
Out of the Hotel and turn right and 20 metres away there is a small bar, this was the cheapest I found at 3 euros for half a litre of beer, they also did pizza and pasta dishes. This bar was used by travellers and had a good local clientel too, I got the impression it was a pub/bar used by local football supporters.Using my limited German I socialised with some friendly if colouful characters in here.
In some of the Larger Brauhauses I learned that the German word "Vorsicht" means "shift idiot" as on several occasions I heard this shouted by waiters/esses immediately prior to being barged out the way, so listen out and be prepared.
The organised city tours are good and start from the town hall. You could save money and plan these yourself but I chose not to do. I did a few of these including the Dachau Concentration Camp tour, again you could do this yourself at little cost. I was dissapointed/annoyed with some of tour party who thought they were at a theme park.
before we travelled to Germany we booked a table at Restaurant 181, the revolving restaurant situated on top of the tower in the olympic park. We had the set meal with wine and the total cost for three was about 350 euros, Quite expensive compared to what I prefer paying but for a treat well worth the experience.Cant comment to much on the view as it was snowing at the time of our meal but what we did get to see was impressive.
The bill includes the cost of the lift up to the restaurant. There is no stair climb alternative.

The rooms are very small but clean with everything you need for a weekend break. Breakfast offers a lot of choice and is well presented.

Breakfasts were very good. The only critisism was the tv was a distance from the beds and the picture wasn't great. This is the second time I have been here and I would go back. Great value near station since we did a lot of travelling around and used the trains. Showers were great.

Go to Salzburg and up the Zugspitze. Only 15euros by train. The christmas markets were great and the shops were good and plenty of them.

The hotel and rooms were dirty. Staying in a corider where all the door and locks had been kicked in was not a pleaseant experience. The lift was broken. And considering it was a hotel making the guy at reception understand that you had a booking for a room was almost impossible! What else he thought you were there fore is beyond me! Stay clear of this Hotel!!!

Good Value and good location. Problem with hotwater for the first 48 hours though. Don't expect anything fancy and you'll be happy.

A sound budget-priced hotel near the main railway station. Comfortable beds, TV fridge, but no kettle!

Marienplatz nearby for shopping. The Hofbrauhaus (large indoor beer house) for traditional beer & food.
